Canton Arts District – I’m BAAAACKKK…

Canton First Friday Arts Festival
Digital Art by BZTAT

I once was a regular at Canton First Fridays. In fact, I was one of the first art vendors at the very first First Friday back in 2007. I worked out of several different studios in the Canton Arts District over the years, and then I took a break.

It’s been a couple of years, and I think I am ready to come off of my hiatus.  My presence will be less obvious, perhaps, than it has been in the past, but I am making a comeback.

In exchange for keeping their office open throughout the week and helping out with various tasks, ArtsinStark has given me a small space in their arts district office to create and share some of my artwork. It won’t be a big space, but enough to be a part of things again. I am looking forward to getting back into the Canton art scene!

This coming First Friday I will have an outdoor booth on Court Ave. Stop by and visit if you plan on being downtown! I will have all of my new Mia Meow paintings on display, as well as other artworks. The weather is supposed to be spectacular – I hope I see you there!

After First Friday, stop in and see me at the Canton Arts District office at 308 4th St. NW during the week. I look forward to seeing you there as well!

New Pet Portrait Painting Workshop scheduled!

Pet Portrait Painting workshop by Artist BZTATMy Pet Portrait Painting Workshops have been a lot of fun for my students and for me! I have scheduled my next Pet Portrait Painting Workshop for Saturday, May 21, 2016. I would be thrilled to have you join us for the next event!

Many of the students who have participated in previous workshops came with little or no prior painting experience. It is exciting to watch people who think they have no talent leave the workshop with a classy painting of their special pet.

Students will learn to layer color in my unique style, beginning with a drawing on a black canvas. As the day goes on, participants will watch the colors develop while they make new friends and enjoy a fun, creative experience.

Some participants come with a friend or make it a group outing. Bring a friend and get a discount!

Located in Warrensville Heights, OH, BZTAT Studios at Embrace Pet Insurance has a relaxed atmosphere that features a fun, contemporary style and is pet friendly.

Here are the details for the Pet Portrait Painting Workshop:

“I wish I could paint my pet’s portrait but I am no artist.”

Hathaway Brown Middle School Pet Portrait Painting Class
Hathaway Brown MS Pet Portrait Painting Class 2013

I hear those words a lot, or words similar to them.

I get it. You wish you were an artist, but you gave up the belief that you could be one when you were a kid.

Everyone has creativity within them, but truthfully, only a few have the combination of talent, skill and tenacity to bring it forth as persisting vocation.

You don’t have to make art your vocation, however, to create an artwork that you can display with pride. With professional guidance, pretty much anyone who has the desire can create a worthy artwork.

My first pet portrait painting workshop was with a group of middle school students. We met for an hour and a half each day for 5 days of a summer camp, and I guided them with my techniques to create some stunning artworks. Afterwords, I though, if middle school students could do this, why not try it with adults?

Instead of doing it as an extended class, I decided to do it in a workshop “Mini-Retreat” format. My first Pet Portrait Mini-Retreat debuted in October of 2014 and was a huge success, as were subsequent workshops. Participants have been amazed at their creations as they learn my techniques and colorful methods!

Although 6 hours of creativity is intensive, my studio is a relaxing environment, and it is a casual affair. There is no pressure, and participants enjoy creating with new and old friends. Groups of friends have registered and come together, and individual students have come and met new friends. All have had a great time!

You can see a slideshow of student work on the registration page for the next workshop, which is happening on April 25, 2015. Register before April 15, and get $15 off the regular price.

I would love to help you bring your creativity to the fore to honor that special pet who has captured your heart. I hope to see you on the 25th!
