I have two drawings for today’s art auction to raise funds for my latest Okey’s Promise project. One is a Great Dane for all my Dane loving friends (You are a special breed!), and the other is an orange cat for all my ginger kitteh loving pals (You, too, are a special breed!).

You can leave bids for them in the comments below instead of going to a separate page as yesterday’s auction required. Simply state in your comment whether it is for the dog or the cat.

Art Auctions to support the current Okey's Promise Project are live!

As I stated in my recent vision board post post, my first priority this year  is to:

“Create my third Okey’s Promise project – a mural on a building in Barberton, OH, that educates and inspires people around the world to take action against animal abuse, child abuse and domestic violence.”

In order to create the mural, I need to raise money for the costs involved.

I have been lucky to have Okey’s Promise Keepers to assist with the funding of my previous projects, and I have had some very special Promise Keepers contributing to the current project as well.

I have also done some special promotional auctions in the past where people can bid on artworks and the winning bids go towards the campaign.

I am going to, again, do auctions throughout January to aid the campaign. You can follow the auctions  here or on the Okey’s Promise Facebook page. Watch for art auctions all month, starting with a big kick-off auction today!

Some artworks will be new, and some will be works from previous auctions that did not sell. Like the drawing of Okey above. It is posted below along with some others.

Today’s kick-off auction includes a group of drawings. The first 4 are medium size (5″ X 7″) drawings and the last 3 are “mini’s” (3″ x 5″), which accounts for the variation in minimum bids.

Each artwork has its own bidding page. Please leave bids in the comments on the bidding pages and not  in the comments of this post.

Click on the images of the artwork below for which you’d like to bid. Simply leave your bid in the comments on the artwork’s bidding page, and keep checking back to see others have made bids after you.

There is a “Buy Now” option for each piece. You can buy the piece now for the stated “Buy Now” price as long as no bids have been made before you. Simply write BUY NOW in the comments and the piece is yours.

Bidding will conclude on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 10 pm ET.

Winning bidders will need to allow 4 weeks for shipping of the original artwork.

Thanks for your support of the auction. Happy bidding!

“The Mystery of Cats” Gallery Exhibit

The Mystery of Cats painting by BZTAT

Cats have been the source of legends, myths and mysteries for thousands of years. The same qualities that have inspired magical imaginations about cats for centuries also inspire me artistically.

In “The Mystery of Cats”, an exhibit of new paintings at Second April Galerie, I take a direct look at their mystery and the qualities that make cats, particularly black cats, so intriguing.

There is a psychological depth to cats that is both alluring and intriguing, and this makes them an interesting focus for artwork. Cats can be very loving and tender, but they can also be independent and self assured. They have a paradoxical character that makes them very interesting as companions and also great subjects for artistic inspiration.

The exhibit is both playful and evocative, with colorful images of spirited felines in different environments. A serious message is conveyed by these stately creatures, however.

Although fun and colorful, the paintings also implore us to reconsider the myths that claim that black cats are evil and connected to a sordid subculture.

Because of the legends connecting black cats to bad luck, they often are innocent victims of a society that casts them off or leaves them vulnerable to abuse. Black cats  not only fall prey to mischief-makers seeking to cause mayhem around Halloween, they also are unlucky in finding homes.

Around the world, animal shelters consistently report that black cats are often passed over for other cats by people looking to adopt a new pet.

“The Mystery of Cats” artworks and messages that go with them encourage viewers to enjoy the mystery of cats, yet they also challenge us to respect that cats are wonderful pets and worthy of our compassion.

The artworks will be on display at Second April Galerie at 324 Cleveland Ave., Canton, OH beginning First Friday (October 5, 2012) and will remain through October 27. If you are in Canton, I hope you will stop in and see them.

In conjunction with the exhibit, I will hold a “Create-a-thon” on Thursday, October 18, where I will create artworks in the gallery for 12 hours (9 am – 9 pm). The works created during the Create-a-thon will be auctioned to raise money for the latest Okey’s Promise: Art for a Cause project.

More info will be forthcoming about the Create-a-thon. Also, “The Mystery of Cats” artworks will be posted for sale here on the website soon. Stay tuned!
