Every now and again, I try out different styles and techniques.
Usually, my images are crisp and simplified, and I abstract shapes to capture the fluffy tufts of a cats fur.
I rarely use black or gray, and instead capture a gray cats color with blues and greens.
A couple of years ago, though, I got a wild hare in me, and I created this silly little painting of my Maine Coon Cat Noah.
I used black and gray in a very brushy style, and I juxtaposed it against bold color stripes. I also used an odd-sized piece of wood for a canvas.
At the time, I was looking at some paintings by so-called Outsider or Visionary Artists. These artists joyfully splashed paint on their canvases, and their works were characterized by brushy painterliness and distorted shapes. I was intrigued and I wanted to try something looser than my usual style.
I sorta liked the outcome, and I have had it hanging on my wall in my office ever since. It’s time to change some things around, though, and I thought I would offer it up for sale.
Although I liked it, it was not a direction I chose to pursue much further. So it is likely to be a one of a kind. Sorta makes it a little extra collectible, huh?
