Born Free: Feral Cat Drawing #8

Black and white tuxedo cat drawing
Born Free: Feral Cat Drawing #8 by BZTAT

I totally turned this cat’s world upside down. He was not a happy camper when he realized that he had walked into a trap enticed by food from which he could not escape. It was not easy to watch. But I know it is for his best interests.

All of the cats trapped Tuesday will be released back to their home this evening. I will be happy to see them in the place where they belong. You can read more about the process on my Okey’s Promise: Art for a Cause blog.

By the way, I am a part of a process to encourage the adoption of a public Trap-Neuter-Return program in the City of Canton in which I live. You can read my letter to the editor on the issue, which was published in the Canton Repository, if you would like. My hope is that many more people will recognize the benefits of TNR as a means of public animal control.

This drawing is #8 in my series of feral cat drawings of a colony of cats with which I am intervening. I am placing each drawing up for auction bids. The details are below. If you would like to contribute to the rescue fund for the intervention, you may do so with the ChipIn widget in the sidebar. Thank you for your consideration.

Born Free: Feral Cat Drawing #7 by BZTAT

Yesterday’s Torbie cat drawing was of one of the cats I was able to trap in my TNR effort with a colony of cats. Today’s Torbie drawing is of another cat that has yet to be trapped. She is a beautiful cat. I hope that we are able to successfully trap her and attend to her health needs in the next trapping effort next week.

Born Free: Feral Cat Drawing #6

Born Free: Feral Cat Drawing #6

Yesterday, I trapped 7 cats in humane traps and took them to One of a Kind Pets for spay/neutering. I have been reading about Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and have been coached by some local rescuers on the process, so it went fairly well. The cats went into the traps fairly quickly, enticed by food.

The process was stressful for the cats. These are basically wild animals that were caged – not a comfortable thing for them. Nonetheless, it is an important and humane activity, as spay/neutering has many benefits for them, in addition to containing the colony population.

The Torbie cat featured today was the first to go into a trap. She calmed down when a towel was draped over her trap. She was such a beautiful creature, I was compelled to draw her.
