Second Chance for Born Free: Feral Cats – Art Auction Redux

I have worked hard at trapping a colony of feral cats over the past few weeks and I drew images to honor them in the process. I still have 2 cats that have eluded my trapping, but I will get them in the coming days.

The trapping was to take them in for spay/neutering so that we could prevent further population of the colony, and to help them have better health outcomes in the long run. It gives the cats better chances at life as well as keeping them from reproducing.

I posted all of the drawings of the cats for auction here in this space. Some of the drawings did not get bids in the auctions, so I thought I would reopen the bids for another day. Like the real cats, the drawings are getting a second chance!

You can bid on the drawings posted above for a limited time by clicking on the image of your interest, and then bid in the comments on the page for that drawing. Each page has the info about the drawing, including bidding and shipping cost info.

All auctions will close at 10pm Sunday, March 18, 2012.

Happy  bidding!

Here is a slideshow of all of the drawings, some of which have been sold and are no longer available for bids.

Okey – The cat that changed my life.

This auction has been reopened. Bids will be accepted until 10pm Sunday, 3/18/12.

"Okey" Drawing by BZTAT

I have concluded my series of feral cat drawings of a colony of cats with which I am intervening. Although there are still a couple of cats to be trapped and neutered, I have drawn all of them, and I think it is time to bring the series to a close. All of the cats are doing well and now have  greater potential for longer lives. And the overpopulation worries are over.

Thanks for following the series, and thanks for caring about the real cats that inspired the drawings.

Today, I drew a picture of my cat Okey, the little cat who changed my life. Without her, I would have never thought of intervening with feral cats.

You see, Okey was a stray cat, dumped on the streets of downtown Canton, my home. I rescued her in October of last year, and my life has been changed ever since.

The movement that she inspired has motivated others around the world to take the welfare of cats and other animals more seriously, and for that I am very grateful. She also has become my very dear, sweet companion.

Like the other drawings, I am placing this one up for auction. Here are the details:

Born Free: Feral Cat Drawing #19

This auction has been reopened. Bids will be accepted until 10pm Sunday, 3/18/12.

Born Free: Feral Cat Drawing #19

Today’s cat is, well, I guess you could call her a tortoise shell, but then, she is very dark, so some may call her simply a black cat.

I call her beautiful.

This drawing is #19 in my series of feral cat drawings of a colony of cats with which I am intervening. I am placing each drawing up for auction bids. The details are below. If you would like to contribute to the rescue fund for the real-life cat intervention, you may do so with the ChipIn widget in the sidebar. Thank you for your consideration.

You can read more about the feral cat intervention process on my Okey’s Promise: Art for a Cause blog.

By the way, I am a part of a process to encourage the adoption of a public Trap-Neuter-Return program in the City of Canton in which I live. You can read my letter to the editor on the issue, which was published in the Canton Repository, if you would like. My hope is that many more people will recognize the benefits of TNR as a means of public animal control.
