Okey the Studio Cat has been rescued from the parking lot!

It took a couple of days, but Okey the Parking Lot Kitty is now Okey the Studio Cat!

Thanks to coaching and equipment from Jill of Cripple Creek Ferals and Friends and the inspiration and support from Dorian of Your Daily Cute, I was able to capture Okey last night and bring him/her inside the studio.

As you can see, Okey is not at all a feral kitty! Once safely inside, Okey has shown that he/she is a loving and socialized cat who seems very grateful to be away from the cold, damp and dangerous outdoors.

Okey and I cannot thank Jill and Dorian enough for their help and support. I prefer to be on the PR end of rescue rather than the “in the trenches” side, so this was a nerve wracking experience for me.

I also cannot thank all of those who have provided financial and moral support for Okey’s rescue (see widget to the left if you are interested in contributing to Okey’s care). We plan to take him/her to One of a Kind Pet Rescue soon to get checked out by a vet and see about any treatments/surgeries that may be indicated.

Once Okey is checked out by the vet, we will start looking for an adoptive home. It is possible that Okey escaped from a loving family who misses him/her, so we will do what we can to see if someone is looking for him/her.

I keep saying him/her, because I am not sure yet if Okey is a he or a she. He/she is keeping the tail firmly between the legs, so it is hard to tell, but at first glance it appears Okey maybe a SHE. We will let the vet make the final determination.

There is one other thanks I need to share. I have been participating in the Nu Campaign with Nulo Pet Food, which my cat Brewskie Butt has been blogging about on his blog Just Meowin’.

Nulo has been providing us with free pet food for several weeks in order to give the food a try. We have been participating to assist my overweight Noah in losing weight as well as to enhance all my cats’ overall health.

With the exception of some tuna (sorry Charley) and some very pungent canned food to entice Okey into the live trap, Okey has been eating Nulo food exclusively. As long as he/she is with me, he/she will continue to do so. Nulo is a premium food that is packed with nutrients and not fillers, and it is perfect for restoring Okey to a healthy weight and overall status.

I think the video above is the best illustration EVER of Nulo’s motto, which is: “nutrition meets love”.

The video below was shot soon after Okey’s rescue. So soon, in fact, that the celebratory text from Auntie Dorian upon hearing of Okey’s rescue appears in the video, which was shot on my iPhone!

Thanks again to all for your support with Okey. I will keep you posted on his/her adventures!

The effect was amazing: 10 hours of sex with small breaks! The woman was satisfied and very glad! The side effects I noticed were dry mouth and red eyes!

Disclosure: Nulo has generously provided free product and other benefits in exchange for our participation in the Nu Campaign to fight pet obesity. We are happy to be a part of this awareness campaign, however, all of the opinions about the product are mine and not dictated in any way by the company.

The last thing I need is another cat.

I am honestly struggling to keep my studio open, as the rent and bills are getting tougher and tougher to meet. I already have 4 cats. And I am still trying to find a home for Percy and Andy.

But I couldn’t ignore Okey’s need.

I have seen glimpses of Okey for a couple of months now in varying places around downtown Canton. Each time I have seen him I have gotten the shivers, as there is a lot of traffic around here. It is not at all a safe place for a cat.

I discovered Okey’s “lair” on Sunday. He (I am calling him a he but I really am not sure) has taken up residence in a fenced in area around the air conditioning unit at a law firm behind my studio. He has made himself a bed out of newspapers and leaves underneath the AC.

He is very gaunt and emaciated. Some friends who are experienced at cat rescues are coaching me on how to gain his trust. We plan to “rescue” him this weekend and bring him inside the studio. We plan to get him to a vet and get some meat on his bones once he is able to meet the challenges. He is already gobbling down the noms I bring him twice a day.

I am not one to easily ask for money, but if I am going to get Okey properly cared for and ready for adoption, I will need help. If you would like to contribute to his care, you can donate through the Chip-in widget in the side-bar on the left. Please note that this is not a tax deductible donation. It is simply a goodwill gesture towards helping  Okey’s rescuers get him the care that he needs.

You can also purchase a print of the image of  Okey above through my Imagekind gallery, which will help me keep my studio in operation.

Prints are a less expensive way of purchasing artwork. Check out the other images in the gallery. You just might find some great holiday gifts!

I thank you for any support you can offer. I will keep you posted on Okey’s progress.

BZTAT and Pawcurious team up for a 24-hr Blog and Paint-a-thon!

Artists don’t make a lot of money, but we have our causes that we want to help just like anyone else.  So when we can’t donate money, we share our art.

I get asked to donate to a lot of causes, and truthfully, I am starting to say “no” with only a few exceptions. You can read why here.

Pet charities and Be the Change for Pets is my main exception.

I have done 12 hr. paint-a-thons in the past where I painted for 12 hrs. and auctioned off the resulting art to benefit pet rescue. When Dr. V. of Pawcurious said at BlogPaws West she was going to do  a 24-hr Blog-a-thon for a pet cause, I got caught up in the moment.

I stood up in front of the entire BlogPaws crowd and said, “I’m gonna do a 24-hr Paint-a-thon alongside Dr.V.!”

What was I THEENKING??? OK, I can do this…

Mark your calendars. the Paint-a-thon begins on Saturday, November 13th, starting at 2pm EST.

There will be more details coming, including how this will correspond with Dr. V’s Blog-a-thon and about other bloggers who will be joining in for the cause. Details about which charities will benefit from the auction sale of the artwork and how it will be auctioned will also be forthcoming.

This will be the last paint-a-thon that I do for while, as I need to focus on earning a living from my art. My critters and I have our own  needs. So if you are looking for an opportunity to get a great piece of art and benefit animals in need at the same time, you will want to tune in.

The love of a pet never grows old, and there are so many out there just looking for someone with whom to share their love. What can you do to “be the change” for them today?

Please feel free to share and use the video above for whatever cause you want to highlight to benefit animals in need.
