Laurie Ruettimann and career schtuffs

My usual themes on this blog generally revolve around art and animals, usually a blend of the two.

Bear with me today as I diverge from the usual.

I meet a lot of interesting people through social media and online interaction. I meet people who inspire me as an artist. I meet professionals and entrepreneurs who give me ideas for developing my art business. I meet people who love animals as much as I do and we share other interests.

Laurie Ruettimann is someone that I met online, and she does all of those things. She inspires me as an artist through discussions on her blog about a wide range of topics. She is one of the top human resources professionals in the country and is a very savvy entrepreneur. She is very giving in her willingness to share ideas about developing your career.

And she is a crazy cat lady whose Scrubby is my Brewskie Butt’s twin from a different mother.

Laurie is starting a new career venture herself through her new company New Media Services. She has asked me to help promote The Career Summit, which is an “virtual” online conference bringing together the greatest minds in career development in one phenomenal event.

I am not sure that she needs me to help her promote this fabulous event, but I am honored that she asked. And she offered me an affiliate deal, so, you know, everyone has their price.

That said, I wouldn’t promote it if I didn’t believe it was top notch.

Times are tough for pretty much everyone right now. Careers are in transition, and sometimes completely obliterated because of the economic struggles facing our culture. Here is your chance to get the most current info from the top career professionals in the world.

Listen to Laurie talk about the Career Summit in the video below. Sounds pretty interesting, huh?

Video interview at BlogPaws West 2010 courtesy of Eukanuba

While I was at BlogPaws West in Denver, CO a couple of weeks ago, I was interviewed on camera courtesy of Eukanuba.

Yeah, I know. It was a bad hair day. I overslept – what can I say? Didn’t have much time for primping.

I overslept because: 1) You don’t sleep much at conferences when you stay up late enjoying the company of friends you rarely get to see; and 2) What little time you get DO get to sleep is luxurious, because BlogPaws manages to find hotels that have the most comfortable beds in the world. It is REALLY hard to pull yourself out of those beds.

If you can look past the bed-head, the interview is not half bad.

You can see more videos on my new video page. Enjoy!

Art of Kindness Paint-a-thon was a success and lots of fun!

On Thursday, September 23, I engaged in a 12-hr. paint-a-thon. From 9am to 9pm, I painted as many paintings as I could and placed them all up for auction to raise money for the Friends of Stark Pound.

The paint-a-thon took place at Second April Galerie, who hosted the Art of Kindness fundraiser event billed as “An Evening of Fun, Food and Furry Friends!” and art exhibit. (The art exhibit will remain on display through October 1, 2010.)

A large crowd of art and animal enthusiasts attended the evening event, which included live music by Roger Phillips and Ken Weiss; several items donated for a silent auction; food and drink; and lots of furry frivolity. Several dogs available for adoption provided lots of barking and tail wagging fun.

I ended up painting 5 paintings which raised $315 for the Friends of Stark Pound. Bids were taken at the gallery and online through Twitter. Three paintings went to in-gallery bidders and two went to bidders on Twitter. One winning bidder was from Germany!

Thanks to all who stopped by to cheer me on during the day and to those who provided support online. Special thanks go to those who bought the paintings and provided much needed funds to the Friends of Stark Pound.

Together, we are the Change for Pets who need us.

If you would like to donate to the Friends of Stark Pound, you can do so here. Thanks so much for your support!
